Wood packaging that crosses a border has to be treated against pests and marked with the IPPC stamp. Purely domestic shipments generally do not need it.

What can go wrong with an export pallet
- 01Untreated repairsA marked pallet repaired with untreated wood is no longer compliant.
- 02Unreadable markA mark that is painted over, worn or partly cut off can get a shipment held.
- 03Wrong treatmentMethyl bromide (MB) treatment is not accepted by some countries, so check the destination.
- 04BarkThe wood must be debarked. Large patches of bark are grounds for rejection.

Every part of the mark means something
The IPPC mark carries the country code, a producer or treatment-facility number, and the treatment code. The ISPM-15 stamp decoder explains each part, and ISPM-15 explained covers the rules in full.
Shipping abroad?
Put the destination country in the message. It changes the answer more than the pallet does.
