Space, not weight
Pallet loads fill up before they get heavy
A 53-foot trailer typically holds around 26 standard 48×40 pallets on the floor, and stacked empty pallets fill the trailer's space long before they reach its weight limit. That is why quantity matters so much to freight: a full load costs far less per pallet than a part load.
