How pallet recycling works
Four outcomes for a used pallet.
- Step 01
Reuse
Sound pallets are sorted by size and grade and go back into service as they are.
- Step 02
Repair
Pallets with a broken board or two get replacement boards and go back into service.
- Step 03
Dismantle
Pallets too far gone are taken apart, and their good boards become repair stock.
- Step 04
Grind
What is left is ground into mulch, animal bedding or fuel fibre.
Why recycle
Wood that has already been cut
Much of what goes into a wooden pallet is spent before it is ever used: the tree, the sawmill, the drying and the haulage. Reusing or repairing a pallet avoids building a new one.
