Nevada's freight economy exists largely to serve California. Reno and Las Vegas both host enormous distribution operations positioned to reach the West Coast in a day while paying Nevada's costs rather than California's.
That means very large inbound flows and a corresponding surplus of used pallets at the receiving end. Local recycled supply is generally adequate and cheap, and there is no economic argument for shipping wood in from Ohio.
Mining and battery manufacturing are the specification-led exceptions: dense ore and equipment loads, and battery cell packaging with its own handling and compliance requirements.
